3 Tips to Remain Motivated while Learning a Foreign Language

Motivation and foreign language learning

So you have vowed to learn a foreign language and are quite enthusiastic about the prospect. Does everything around seems exciting and do you visualize yourself to be a pro in the concerned language soon? Well, let me warn you beforehand then that all is not going to be as rosy as you thing. Beginning with learning a language and loving it is quite natural but the actual test on foreign language learning is whether or not the learner can hold on to the motivation in second language acquisition.

But do not let the above revelation dishearten you because garnering motivation in second language acquisition is possible and the below listed tips would further ease out the task for you.

1. The 30-day language learning plan never fails

When it comes to cultivating motivation in second language learning, nothing can work better than the 30-day habit forming plan. This involves deliberately getting into the act of learning the language everyday and sticking to the set time-table.

The first 30 days of learning something new are the most crucial and decide the end result. Once the habit for daily effort is formed, pulling through the entire process would be a lot easier.

2. Do not forget to reward yourself for the achievements

The importance of high motivation has been closely linked with the need for achievement. If you are attempting to learn all by yourself, make sure the aspect of underlining the achievements made is not missed upon.

Setting daily as well as weekly goals for yourself and accompanying their accomplishments with rewards could be a great strategy to keep the motivation in second language acquisition alive.

3. Neither expect nor attempt to rush up

Another folly that mars motivation in second language learning is that beginners generally attempt to rush up with the process in a bid to match levels with those who are proficient in it.

Please understand then that such an activity would end up harming you by providing you with flawed knowledge and concepts which would unfortunately stay with you for a lifetime. So please grant the process its due time because that is anytime a better proposition than speaking fallacious language and making a fool of yourself (which would over time result in lost zeal to learn).
