Motivation and second language learning have a deeper connection than it otherwise appears on the surface. After all, unless one possesses motivation in second language acquisition and manages to keep that flame alive, the zeal to learn the foreign language would soon die away in a few days post beginning with the endeavour.

For learning language and loving it, attitudes and motivation in second language learning have to be created. To achieve your goal of mastering a language, it would be required of you to possess the necessary motivation because without that, you would never be able to put in your optimal efforts into the task.

Tip#1 Constantly remind yourself of the goals and deadlines

If you have taken up to learn a language it is quite likely that you would have a motive behind doing so. If it involves fixed time frames or deadlines for you to be conversant with the language, remind yourself of the approaching deadline on a regular basis. This would keep that fear of missing the deadline alive in you and keep you on your toes.

Tip#2 Set realistic goals

In case you are learning the languages off your own accord and there is no persisting need as such for it to be learnt in a specific time frame, you would need to harbour your motivation in an even bigger way because one is prone to being laidback in such situations.

Do not let yourself fall into the trap then and set short-term goals for yourself and use them to reach to the ultimate goal of learning the language. But again, you would need to set realistic goals so that you do not end up being disheartened over not being able to achieve them and give up the entire plan altogether.

Tip#3 Immerse yourself into the language

Immersion is the by far the best tactic to draw motivation in second language acquisition. It means surrounding yourself with the language in whichever ways possible. You could interact with others in that language, watch video tapes of native speakers conversing in that language or attempt to read and speak as much of it as possible.
